Over the years our homes have become more and more automated. Think robot vacuums, Alexa, and video doorbells just to name a few. We’re not  at ‘The Jetson’s’ level yet, but it is exciting to look at what devices and technology we’ll be welcoming into our homes in the not-too-distant future that will make our busy life easier and more efficient – not to mention make you the envy of your friends with your advanced technology!

Recently we shared with you our insights on “What we will be seeing in our homes in 2023 – Milan Design Week Report”, and this time we’re going to take a look at the latest in kitchen design and features and what was big at EuroCucina 2022. Smart technology is reimagining the way we live, and clever kitchens are where we are most excited about seeing in innovations in the kitchen. As people are more willing to invest in their kitchens than ever before, thoughtful design is becoming a top priority.

The kitchen has evolved to become a multi-functional space and is one of the highest priority areas for new home builders and renovators – the kitchen is valuable real estate!

In the design of the kitchen space storage and organisation have transformed:

  • Screens are making an appearance in kitchens as large mounted screens or in-built iPads as recipe displays – with the flick of a finger on the touchpad screen you could be preparing a chicken korma or a chocolate ripple sponge.
  • Overhead cabinets are moving to automation with seamless opening and closing.
  • Beautiful Corian benchtops now are being made with in-built charging ports – you simply pop your phone down and the bench charges it for you!
  • All-in-one zip taps can now be connected to your mains water and at the tap of a button you can choose between hot, cold, or sparkling water!
  • Kitchens are becoming invisible thanks to tambour doors that automatically come down over the bench to hide your bench top appliances, or even your stove or sink!
  • Food prep areas are going to be completely reimagined as large sinks are installed that transform into additional prep space.

High-end options in cooking and food preparation innovations bring a fantastic versatility to your cooking thanks to the likes of Asko, Neff, and Gaggenau. We’re loving the sound of vacuum drawers for food preservation and marinating, or blast chillers for instant freezing and storage convenience!

Let’s take a look at just a few of the exciting technological innovations we’ve taken a fancy to that are destined for kitchens of people who love to cook and love to be a step ahead in the latest in design!

The ‘mini kitchen’ will see a rise in popularity in apartment living that might be small  but certainly don’t skimp on style or attention to detail – thanks to versatile appliances that can wash, cook, refrigerate, and store, such as the Tutto by Fabita that can be programmed to wash and dry your fruit and vegetables and also includes an induction stove that you can hung up out of the way when you’re not using it. How amazing is that?!

Increasingly more sustainable, environmentally-friendly materials in production are first choice to produce energy-saving appliances. Unveiled at EuroCucina this year is the Beko Side by Side Refrigerator with Harvest Fresh – which simulates the natural 24-hour sun cycle by alternating blue, green and red lighting with 12 hours of darkness inside the of fruit and vegetable drawer This helps to preserve the vitamin and nutritional content of your produce and keep them fresher for longer.

Neff have developed a super clever fully automated coffee machine that allows you to start that coffee as soon as you feel the need for it with a simple tap of an app from wherever you are! Not many live with their own barista but the Neff machine is just as good (if not better!) because you program it to make your coffee just the way you like it, every time!

I’m looking forward to adding some of these clever appliances and innovations into the kitchens that I have on the go over the next year.

I’d love to know, what would you love to add to your new kitchen?
