A Sculptural Island Anchors the Open Plan

The Gippsland Kitchen

Located in Gippsland VIC, this kitchen transformation retained the existing footprint while reimagining the space around a sculptural architectural island that defines the entire open-plan living zone.

The island is both functional and commanding, integrating dining, relaxed seating. The kitchen has a dedicated tea and coffee area designed for daily ritual and effortless entertaining. Marble features prominently throughout, delivering a sense of permanence, refinement, and timeless luxury, while a concealed appliance pantry maintains clarity and composure within the space.

This is a kitchen designed to impress, visually, architecturally, and in the way it is experienced every day.

It may seem strange to engage with an interior designer located almost 4,000 kilometres away, however, having experienced Jan-Marie's work on a family visit to Darwin, I felt confident that she could transform my tired, but functional, 34-year old kitchen even if the only site visits were virtual! We had several discussions, a couple of iterations of the design but the process was smooth. Of course, technology was the enabler with images, videos and measurements provided by me and concepts provided by Jan-Marie and her team before we settled on the final design. A few months on and I am in love with my beautiful new kitchen - it is modern, supremely functional and so elegant. Jan-Marie's plans were finely detailed and specified and very well built by South Coast Kitchens from Newhaven in Victoria - a kitchen company she also recommended. All the lights, mosaic tiles, stone benches and splashback were her recommendations and combine to deliver us a stunning kitchen.
